Thinstall is a program developed from Thinstall and adquired by VMware that allows you to compile all files required for an installed application to run on an unique executable (*.exe) regarless of the version of windows running or permissions the current user have.
Thinstall create the virtual environment required for the application, resources like registry, folders and libraries are included from an genuine program installation.
To achieve this, you should install and select the desire application for virtualization and thinstall will scan and virtualize all software requirements and compile it on an executable for you.
The application is great for creating portable applications and could help fix compatibility issues between applications however has some restrictions, for example:
It cannot virtualize applications that requires drivers
It cannot virtualize applications included on Windows (Sidebar, etc)
It cannot virtualize applications copyright protected by hardware.
IT cannot virtualize applications with known issues related with memory management.
Thinstall main target is the enterprise market, therefore it is really expensive and focused on application virtualization and not for games (unless games doesnt require propietary drivers to run, for example games based on opengl) |
